All that happens on the stage of this world, all that we see externally, is only the outer surface. Just as the rose I offer as a gift is not the love it expresses, so the world is not the spirit of which it is an expression. All that we see is an expression. And that which expresses itself therein remains invisible. It is precisely this that I call the spiritual background of world happenings.
